Living with a heavy canopy
Mature trees are the reason people want these lots and also the source of most of the maintenance. Dense canopy means shade that thins the turf beneath it, leaf volume in autumn that is genuinely difficult to keep up with by hand, limbs growing out over roofs and drives, and root systems that lift walks and interfere with anything you try to plant near them.
None of that is a reason to take the trees down. It is a reason to manage them - selective thinning to get light to the ground, clearance pruning away from structures, and deadwood taken out before it falls. A tree that is properly maintained is far less likely to become the emergency removal that costs several times as much.
Removals when they are warranted
Some trees do need to come out: structural defects, significant decay, heavy lean over a building, or damage from a previous storm that has not healed. We do removals on wooded lots where access is tight and there is limited room to drop anything, followed by stump grinding so the ground can be replanted or seeded.
Water and drainage
Shaded, tree-covered ground holds water longer, and low spots that would dry out in an open yard simply do not. We handle downspout extension and discharge, minor regrading to move water away from foundations, and rebuilding beds so they drain instead of holding water against the house. Sun-loving grass and shrubs planted under a closed canopy will disappoint you every year. Choosing shade-tolerant seed and plants, and being realistic about which areas will never carry dense turf, produces a yard that looks deliberate instead of one that looks like a failed lawn.

My lawn will not grow under the trees. What can be done?
Usually a combination of selective thinning to let light through, shade-tolerant overseeding, and accepting that some areas are better as mulched bed than turf. That looks deliberate rather than like a failed lawn.
Is trimming cheaper than removal?
Considerably, and a maintained tree is much less likely to become an emergency removal later. We will tell you when a tree is sound enough to keep even though removal is the larger invoice.
Why does water sit in my yard here?
Shaded, tree-covered ground dries far more slowly than open lawn, so low spots persist. Downspout routing, minor regrading, and rebuilding beds to drain usually resolves it.
